Emergency Aid Funding Blocked in Senate

Minority members seek to address the southern border.

A $110.5 billion emergency spending bill was voted down in the Senate on Wednesday, as minority members reemphasized the need for more funding to secure the southern border rather than aid for foreign defense in Ukraine and Israel.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said in a floor speech, “Let’s finally start meeting America’s national security priorities, including right here at home.”

Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont also voted against the emergency funding. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York also voted “no,” providing the dissents necessary to reintroduce the measure in the future.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the Senate majority and minority leaders as they determine the legislation that will be brought to the floor for a vote.
  • For wisdom for federal legislators as they assess the state of the nation and needs of foreign allies.
